Africa-Press – Eswatini. Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Maloma Colliery, has officially handed over newly built homes to three beneficiaries in the Lubombo region, marking another milestone in government’s community upliftment drive.
The handover is part of a broader housing support programme made possible through a collaboration between the DPM’s office, NDMA, and the corporate social investment wing of Maloma Colliery. Under this partnership, a total of seven houses have been constructed in the region, with three officially presented to beneficiaries during Thursday’s ceremony.
The first beneficiary was the late Gogo Elizabeth Myeni (95), who had been gifted a fully constructed one-room house with a pantry. Sadly, Gogo Myeni passed away before the handover could take place. The DPM announced that the family, in consultation with the local Umphakatsi, would determine who will inherit the property.
The second house was handed to Zephaniah Xaba (58) of Mabantaneni, Lubulini Inkhundla. Overcome with gratitude, Xaba thanked His Majesty King Mswati III, the DPM, and Maloma Colliery for their generosity. He urged that such initiatives be sustained to reach more Emaswati in need of proper shelter.
The third home went to Zodwa Gamedze (42) of Ncandweni, who had requested His Majesty’s assistance in finishing her home. Her appeal was answered with a fully built two-bedroom house. Gamedze expressed heartfelt thanks to the King and praised the DPM for ensuring the completion of her dream home.
In her address, DPM Thulisile Dladla underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in fulfilling the Nkwe Mandate, which focuses on rapid, impactful service delivery. She commended Maloma Colliery for its community-centred approach and further highlighted the Rural Development Fund (RDF) as a vital tool for empowering rural communities to uplift themselves.
Myzo Magagula, Chairperson of Maloma Colliery’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting His Majesty’s vision of ensuring that every Liswati has a roof over their head. He described the housing project as a “symbol of hope, care, and shared responsibility” between the private sector and government in building resilient communities.
The remaining four houses in the programme are expected to be handed over to beneficiaries in the coming weeks.
