Africa-Press – Eswatini. This is what Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini said yesterday when commissioning the commencement of the reconstruction of four Tinkhundla centres that were burned down during the 2021 social unrest.
The PM commissioned the commencement of the reconstruction projects today at the Ludzeludze Inkhudla.
“This is taking us backwards because Government had already constructed these centres but certain people decided to destroy them. So many key structures were destroyed, including schools, hospitals, business structures and others,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also urged the contractors to hire local people as a means of empowering them. He encouraged project overseers to make sure that the building material is safe from looters.
The centres which are being reconstructed to the total value of E13.6 reconstructed are Kwaluseni Inkhundla (E2.9M), Ndzingeni, Inkhundla (E3.9M), Sandleni, Inkhundla (E3.2M) and Lamgabhi Inkhundla (E3.6M).
According to a statement by the Eswatini Government, the contractors that will be working on the projects are Timbali Construction and Obtuse Electrical (Kwaluseni), L&T Investments, and Brissaso Investments (Ndzingeni), IS Construction and Ingivile Electrical (Sandleni) as well as Capevilla Investment and Indlalifa Investments (Lamgabhi).
The Reconstruction Fund was established by His Majesty King Mswati III to rebuild infrastructure that was destroyed during the arsonous riots which engulfed the country in June 2021.
