Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini Council of Catholic Women (ECCW), also known as World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisation (WUCWO) Eswatini, on August 9, 2025 donated to families living at Malindza Refugee Centre.
This generous act of kindness provided much-needed clothing, toiletries, and food supplies to nearly 230 families who have found shelter at the centre.
The donation drive, organised by Catholic women from all 17 parishes within the Diocese of Manzini, highlights the spirit of generosity deeply rooted in Christian values. ECCW’s efforts ensured that vulnerable refugees, many displaced by sudden conflict and hardship, received practical support to improve their daily lives.
The event was attended by Rt Rev José Luis Gerardo Ponce de Leon, the local bishop, Fr Jechonia Mahazule, parish priest of Good Shepherd Mission, and ECCW Chaplain, Fr Ncamiso Vilakati. In his reflection during Mass, Bishop Ponce de Leon commended the women for their selfless giving and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting charitable initiatives in the community.
ECCW President, Make Busisiwe Nxumalo, acknowledged the difficult circumstances the refugees faced and expressed gratitude to His Majesty’s government for providing refuge. She urged the families to hold onto their faith as a source of strength during challenging times.
The management of the Malindza Refugee Centre expressed sincere appreciation for the ECCW’s thoughtful donation and specifically thanked the Bishop for his prompt assistance during the recent refugee influx from Mozambique.
Through this meaningful donation, ECCW has once again demonstrated the power of community generosity to bring relief and hope to those in need.
