Africa-Press – Eswatini. THE Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has reportedly kept faith in Sihlangu head coach Dominic Kunene and his assistants as they will be given new one-year contracts. This comes after the coaches’ contracts elapsed on December 31.

Kunene is assisted by Anthony Mdluli, Mbuso Gina (physical trainer) and goalkeeper coach Sipho ‘Shilton’ Dube. Sources close to the matter revealed that the senior men squad’s technical bench will remain unchanged.

This comes after a good showing in the last COSAFA Cup where Sihlangu finished third. This publication also has it in good authority that Manzini Sea Birds coach Christian Thwala is tipped to lead one of the junior squads.

“The EFA executive had a meeting where it was decided that they should retain Kunene and his assistants. It is now a matter of time before they sign new contracts. They were happy with their performance, especially during the COSAFA Cup held in South Africa last year. The technical bench will remain unchanged,” said the source. He said Thwala would also be handed a role in the other squads. “The only changes will be in the juniors and women squads.

Otherwise, the senior men squad’s technical team will be retained. We are expecting the technical committee to finalise their recommendations this week,” said the source. EFA Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu could not be reached for comment yesterday. Efforts to get EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe proved futile as his phone was out of the network for the better part of the day. Kunene politely asked not to comment on the matter. “I prefer not to say anything for now with regards to this issue.

Please respect that I can’t make a comment,” he said. Meanwhile, the nation’s pride will take on Somalia in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers billed for March. This follows the preliminary round draw of the next continent’s showpiece conducted in Cameroon.

The two-legged ties will be played between March 21 and 29 as Sihlangu will be looking to book a place in the next AFCON finals scheduled for next year in Ivory Coast.
