Africa-Press – Eswatini. Officials from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Micro Projects Unit converge at Hereford High School to conduct a high-stakes inspection of infrastructure decimated by the mid-December 2025 storms.
The delegation tours the debris-strewn grounds to assess the magnitude of the devastation that cripples eight schools across the North Hhohho region. This site visit marks the official launch of a dedicated reconstruction term, a strategic initiative focusing on the immediate repair and rebuilding of classrooms and facilities to ensure the academic year remains on track.
Records confirm that the disaster leaves a trail of destruction across six primary schools and two high schools. In total, 27 classrooms and 15 staff houses stand in ruins, leaving hundreds of learners and educators without adequate shelter. To combat this, the Ministry and Micro Projects launch a specialized technical team tasked with the direct oversight of construction in all affected schools.
A total of 25 constructors receive the mandate to undertake the massive repair task immediately. Government commits a budget of E30 Million to fund this restoration project, aiming to restore the dignity of the affected institutions. The specialized team monitors progress daily, ensuring that the rehabilitation of structures meets the required safety standards for learners.
As the race against time begins, the focus remains on a swift return to normalcy for learners in the region, with contractors being introduced to the sites to commence works without delay.
