Africa-Press – Eswatini. Saneliswa Magagula, the Secretary General(SG) of EmaSwati For Change(EFC) has released a statement on behalf of the political organization condemning the harassment and detention of Tanele Maseko, the widow to assassinated human rights lawyer Thulani Rudolf Maseko.

Retiring Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Tanele Maseko was grabbed, harrased and tormented by the police at the Oshoek Boarder in the early hours on Thursday and this, was shortly after receiving threats from the state through retiring Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo.

The ongoing harassment comes after the widow made statements alleging that, her husband was killed by a “horrible dictator,” Mswati is suspected to have unleashed his mercenaries to kill lawyer Thulani Rudolf Maseko, the then Chairperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF).

“EmaSwati for Change (EFC) vehemently condemns the unjust detention of Tanele Maseko, wife of slain human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko, and Chairperson of the Thulani Maseko Foundation. Tanele and her children have endured immense suffering since the tragic assassination of Thulani Maseko Losing a husband and father is a pain no family should bear, and the absence of justice has compounded their grief. Instead of receiving support and empathy,Tanele has faced unwarranted attacks from the Eswatini Government, seeking to discredit her and unjustly implicate her in obstructing the investigation into her husband’s killing”, reads the statement in part.

The political organization said, it find it repugnant and reprehensible that victims of this grave atrocity be treated as suspects through unlawful flagging, the seizure of Tanele’s passport and confiscation of her cellphone.

”Thulani was fatally shot in front of Tanele and their two young children. It is inhumane that they continue to be subjected to further trauma. We condemn this blatant attempt by the state to obstruct the pursuit of truth and justice.

EFC calls for a prompt, independent UN commissioned investigation into the heinous crime committed against the Maseko family—the assassination of Thulani Maseko. We further call on the US Congress to urgently pass Resolution 174, condemning the human rights record of the Eswatini Government and the brutal killing of Thulani Maseko”, reads the statement in part released by the Secretary General(SG) of EmaSwati For Change.
