ENFRES WARNS OF WILDFIRE DANGER AMID DRY, WINDY WEATHER

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini National Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Service (ENFRES) is urging the public to remain on high alert as the country faces unusually strong winds and persistently dry conditions a dangerous combination that significantly increases the risk of wildfires.

In a public advisory issued this week, ENFRES urged residents to exercise extreme caution when handling flammable materials or ignition sources. The agency stressed that prevention is the most effective way to protect lives, property, and the environment.

“The strong winds and dry weather create the perfect conditions for fires to start and spread rapidly,” said an ENFRES spokesperson. “We need everyone’s cooperation to minimize fire risks during this period”.

ENFRES made a special appeal to parents and guardians to ensure that matches, lighters, and other ignition materials are kept well out of children’s reach. Misuse or neglect of these items can have catastrophic consequences.

“Children are naturally curious,” ENFRES stated. “But in these conditions, a single spark can quickly escalate into a dangerous blaze.”

Citizens are also being advised to avoid dry grass, refuse heaps, and flammable liquids all of which can ignite easily in current weather conditions. Outdoor burning of trash or debris is strongly discouraged until the situation improves.

In the event of a fire, ENFRES advises the public not to attempt extinguishing flames unless the fire is very small and can be safely controlled. Delays in reporting fires can lead to rapid spread and increased damage.

ENFRES continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as needed. In the meantime, the agency emphasizes that community awareness and caution can help prevent disaster.

For immediate assistance, citizens are urged to dial 933 without hesitation.
