ESCCOM URGES ESWATINI TO TURN BROADBAND INTO OPPORTUNITY

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has called on the nation to move beyond access and focus on meaningful connectivity that empowers communities, drives entrepreneurship, and unlocks socio-economic potential.

Speaking on behalf of the ESCCOM CEO at Finnovation 2025, Lwazi Maziya delivered a strong message: broadband is no longer a luxury, it is essential infrastructure, central to the country’s digital transformation journey. “Coverage without actual usage is a missed opportunity,” Maziya said. “Let us be productive on the net sweat the connectivity to derive meaningful benefits across all sectors.”

Connectivity Must Lead to Productivity

Maziya stressed that while Eswatini has made progress in broadband rollout, access alone is not enough. The real goal is using that connectivity to create jobs, improve services, and open up opportunities for all. “We are dedicated to transforming broadband access into broadband empowerment,” he said, adding that meaningful connectivity should support youth entrepreneurship, SME growth, and community upliftment.

Innovation with Purpose

According to ESCCOM, innovation in Eswatini must be intentional, inclusive, and impact driven. The Commission reaffirmed its support for start ups, ecopreneurs, and local innovators building solutions to real life challenges. “We believe innovation is not just a competitive edge, it’s a necessity,” Maziya noted. “The future belongs to those who create, adapt, and collaborate.”

Building a Trusted Digital Economy

To ensure that the digital economy thrives, Maziya underlined the need to strengthen cybersecurity. Without trust in digital platforms, users will hesitate to adopt and fully engage with new technologies. “Users must trust the platforms we design,” he said. “Cybersecurity and digital resilience are fundamental pillars of this transformation.”

Digital Inclusion for Every Liswati

At the core of ESCCOM’s vision is digital inclusion ensuring that no one is left behind in the country’s fintech and digital revolution. From Siteki to Siphofaneni, every citizen must have the chance to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. “Whether it’s a young innovator with a prototype or a market trader embracing ecommerce, everyone deserves access to opportunity,” Maziya said.

Maziya encouraged all sectors to commit to a shared national effort to build a digitally empowered Eswatini. “To the innovators keep building. To the policymakers keep enabling. And to all of us let us move forward with unity of purpose and urgency,” he said.

Maziya thanked partners including Digimage, UNDP, and Taiwan ICDF for their contributions in making Finnovation 2025 a platform that showcases Eswatini’s potential to thrive in the digital age.
