ESWATINI AIR LAUNCHES LUSAKA ROUTE FROM 1 APRIL 2026

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini Air has announced the launch of scheduled direct flights to Lusaka, effective 1 April 2026, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s regional expansion strategy.

The announcement was made on 19 February 2026 at the Royal Eswatini National Airways Corporation Matsapha offices by Qiniso Dhlamini, Group CEO of Royal Eswatini National Corporation, alongside the airline’s General Manager Ndumiso Shongwe.

“We are delighted to expand our network to Lusaka as part of our ongoing commitment to improving regional connectivity,” said Dhlamini. “This route represents an important step towards our growth strategy, and we look forward to serving both business and leisure travellers between Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa.”

He said the airline is strategically positioning King Mswati III International Airport as an alternative regional hub. “By transforming King Mswati III International Airport into an alternative hub, Eswatini Air aims to connect the region to the rest of the world, supporting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange across Africa and beyond,” he said. “We encourage emaSwati and our regional customers to continue supporting their national airline as we strive for sustainability while delivering value and affordability.”

Route Structure and Operations

The new Lusaka service will operate twice weekly. In a strategic move to optimise capacity during the introductory phase, the flight will initially be linked with the existing Harare route. This arrangement will allow the airline to monitor passenger demand and route performance while maintaining a consistent regional presence.

To strengthen its footprint in Zambia, Eswatini Air has appointed AirlinePros as its General Sales Agent in the Zambian market. The company will oversee sales, marketing, and promotional activities to build brand visibility and stimulate passenger traffic.

The Lusaka route joins Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and Harare in the airline’s expanding regional network, reinforcing Eswatini Air’s ambition to become a competitive Southern African carrier.

Dhlamini also confirmed that the airline has secured a slot for the International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit scheduled for 13 to 17 April 2026.

Successful completion of the audit will result in IOSA certification, enabling Eswatini Air to enter into interline agreements, baggage through check arrangements, and codeshare partnerships with other carriers, further integrating the airline into the global aviation system.

“We are vigorously preparing for the audit as it is a critical step in our growth and credibility within the international aviation industry,” he said.

In addition, the airline has introduced a low season schedule for January, February, June, and July. During these months, Durban and Cape Town services will be consolidated instead of suspended, ensuring continuity of service while maintaining operational efficiency.

With the Lusaka launch, Eswatini Air continues to position itself as a growing regional connector, strengthening trade and travel links within Southern Africa.
