Africa-Press – Eswatini. The opening day of the African Youth & Junior Championships 2025 was marked by spirited performances from Eswatini’s young athletes, signaling a bright future for the nation’s track ambitions on the continental stage.
Msibi Siphosethu represented Eswatini in the 400m U20 Men Heat 2 where he delivered a courageous run, finishing fourth with a time of 50.28 seconds. Though he narrowly missed out on a berth in the semifinals, Siphosethu’s tenacity and composure turned heads offering a glimpse of his potential. “This was an amazing opportunity to challenge myself against Africa’s best,” he reflected. “I’m determined to keep working and come back stronger.”
The championships also saw Eswatini athletes in the highly competitive 100m U20 heats. Livia Manyatsi competed in the Women’s Heat 2 from Lane 2, placing seventh against a stacked field. Meanwhile, Madonsa Fong lined up in the Men’s Heat 2, running from Lane 6 and producing a strong effort to secure fourth place.
Despite not advancing to the semifinals, both Manyatsi and Fong walked away with pride and valuable experience. Team coaches and officials praised their dedication and positive attitude. “Participation at this level is invaluable for our athletes every race deepens their experience and builds resilience,” said Head Coach Ndlela.
As Day 1 drew to a close optimism and hope echoed through the Eswatini camp. The nation’s youthful representatives may not have made the next round, but their commitment has set a new benchmark for the team as they continue their journey on Africa’s biggest junior athletics stage.
