Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini has joined world leaders in the global drive to strengthen the integration of water, sanitation, and climate action. Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, was represented by Principal Secretary Lindiwe Mbingo at the 2025 Sector Ministers’ Meeting (SMM) held in Madrid, Spain, from October 22–23, 2025.

The meeting, hosted by Sanitation and Water for All (SWA), UNICEF, and the Government of Spain, brought together 253 delegates, including 47 ministers from across the globe. The SMM 2025 theme, “Breaking Silos: Uniting Political Leadership for Integrating Water, Sanitation, and Climate Action,” underscored the need for collaboration across sectors to address the interconnected global challenges of water security, sanitation, and climate change.

Spain’s Third Vice President and Minister, Ms. Sara Aagesen, officially opened the meeting, emphasizing the urgency of integrated WASH and climate solutions. “Breaking silos is not a choice but a necessity if we are to achieve meaningful progress,” she said, highlighting the role of coordinated leadership in building sustainable systems for all.

Throughout the two-day conference, ministers and delegates engaged in plenary sessions and roundtable dialogues, discussing key issues such as climate financing, joint project implementation, and innovative WASH partnerships. Participants reaffirmed the need for stronger political will and multi-sectoral collaboration to accelerate progress as the world approaches the 2030 SDG deadline.

Eswatini’s participation showcased its growing leadership in integrated water and climate strategies. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy’s partnership with World Vision Eswatini was highlighted as a model of success, demonstrating how public-private cooperation can deliver impactful, sustainable WASH outcomes for communities.

As global leaders called for unity and innovation, Eswatini stood alongside nations reaffirming commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and the broader climate resilience agenda.
