Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini pro-democracy groups have described the decision by South Africa\’s Deputy President David “DD” Mabuza to dance Incwala with King Mswati as a mockery of the political unrest victims.
Speaking to press on Thursday afternoon,Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) said as pro-democracy activists, they expected Mabuza to amplify the voices calling for solutions to the ongoing political crisis not to dance while civilians are being killed.
“As the situation stands, the Deputy President is here to mock us including those who died during the political unrest. We were expecting him as the Deputy President to amplify the voices calling for solutions to the ongoing political crisis instead of coming here to dance Incwala while people are being killed,” said the NNLC President.
On another note,Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo clarified that the Deputy President was in the country in his personal capacity, to participate in the ongoing Incwala ceremony.
“Republic of South Africa’s Deputy President David Mabuza has just landed in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The Deputy President is not visiting in his capacity as a Government official, but purely as a liSwati(son of the soil) here to participate in the ongoing sacred Incwala ceremony and pay homage to His Majesty King Mswati III. He is accompanied by Chiefs and Princes based in the Mpumalanga Province in the Republic of South Africa and is currently at Buhleni Royal Residence,”reads the statement released by the Government Spokesperson.
