ESWATINI, SA RELATIONS REVIVED

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The diplomatic relations between Eswatini and South Africa have been revived. This was said by His Majesty King Mswati III when he reported on his trip to South Africa yesterday (April 16, 2024), upon returning from that country. He said he had embarked on the trip just to revive the relations between the two countries.

He said during the trip, he got an opportunity to talk about strengthening the relationship between the two countries and reviving agreements where the two countries agreed to work together. He mentioned that he was informed by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa that there was going to be national elections next month in South Africa.

The King stated that he wished them well during the elections, stating that Eswatini also had national elections last year, which were successful. He said his trip was relevant, as Ramaphosa also took his time a few weeks ago and came to this country to visit.

He said Eswatini and South Africa worked together in many economic blocs such as Southern African Customs Unions (SACU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the new African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). He further said the two countries were also in the African Union (AU).

Therefore, it was important for these countries, according to the King, to meet from time to time and discuss on how they could work together to improve themselves under these blocs. He said nowadays, this was important because countries could prosper on their own, but needed to work together to develop.
