Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Kingdom of Eswatini has etched its name into the history books with a groundbreaking start at the 2025 SADC Corrections/Prisons/Penitentiary Services Sports and Cultural Games, currently underway in Windhoek, Namibia.

Displaying an unmatched combination of discipline, strength, and national pride, Eswatini’s correctional teams opened the regional tournament with a clean sweep of victories that have set the tone for what promises to be a landmark campaign.

On the soccer field, Eswatini held firm under pressure to secure a 1–0 win against a determined Tanzanian side. The match was a thrilling contest, with Eswatini’s squad showing tactical sharpness, resilience, and composure delighting fans and sending a clear message of intent.

The winning spirit continued into the tug of war arena, where the nation’s “Tigem’gem” team delivered a flawless 2–0 performance over Tanzania. With synchronized strength and coordination, they dominated both rounds with striking authority, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Assistant Chief Officer and Deputy Public Relations Officer Baphelele Kunene expressed his pride in the team’s historic start. “These early victories have significantly lifted twam morale and set a confident tone for the rest of the tournament.” He said. “This underscores Eswatini’s preparedness and competitive spirit on the regional stage.

He also emphasized the broader purpose of the Games, officially opened on August 4 in a vibrant ceremony attended by Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, other SADC Heads of Corrections, and Namibia’s Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Hon. Lucia Iipumbu, MP.

Held from August 4 to 8, the SADC Corrections Games are not just about medals—they celebrate regional cooperation, officer wellness, and cultural exchange. Yet, Eswatini’s early dominance has added an undeniable spark to the tournament.

With several disciplines still ahead, confidence is surging in Eswatini’s camp. “With momentum on our side, more victories are anticipated as Eswatini continues to make its mark”. He said they will continue to pray for the team that side as they are expecting more gold medals.

As day one closes, Eswatini has already written a new chapter in its sporting legacy one defined by ambition, excellence, and regional impact.
