Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini women’s cricket team delivered a commendable effort but ultimately fell well short against Botswana in a challenging 20-over fixture on Sunday. Botswana posted a strong total of 170 for 4, maintaining an aggressive run rate of 8.5 runs per over. In response, Eswatini managed only 59 for 8, finishing with a run rate of 2.95 and losing by a wide margin of 111 runs.
Coach Mancoba Jele reflected on the game, acknowledging that Eswatini started well with everything falling into place during the first eight overs. “We were executing our plans particularly focusing on keeping Botswana’s score as low as possible,” he said. However he noted a loss of concentration at a critical stage, which allowed Botswana to accelerate their innings and seize control.
Highlighting the team’s struggles in finishing strong, Jele emphasized the need for improvement in that area. “Our main assignment for the upcoming match against Sierra Leone is to play the full 20 overs effectively stick to the basics and play it safe,” he stated. Jele sees this as crucial if they are to convert good starts into competitive totals.
Despite the disappointing result, the young Lionesses showed fight and promise. Captain’s sterling performance at the crease was a standout, exemplifying determination with 20 runs off 41 balls, involving solid shot selection and wise decision-making between the wickets.
Botswana’s robust batting line-up and consistently high scoring rate applied relentless pressure, forcing Eswatini into mistakes and ultimately a convincing defeat. The Eswatini team now looks ahead to regroup learn from this experience and focus on executing their plans more consistently in future matches to come.
