According to the EEC tender document, the charging equipment must be capable of supporting secure multiple point-of-sale methods including credit or debit cards without incurring any additional fees, inconvenience or delays versus other payment or access control methods. Other payment options may include pay-per-use subscription methods, RFID or smart cards and smartphone applications.
Supplied equipment and software shall be futureproofed to allow for alternative forms of payment as payment technology evolves. The service provider must operate and maintain each EV charger for at least three years from the date the EV charger is commissioned. Furthermore, the service provider will develop a billing model that will be viable to realise the optimal value from the installation of the EV chargers.
