Africa-Press – Eswatini. For the first time in Eswatini, a family-oriented business seminar will be hosted to empower business legacies.

These are businesses run by families with the aim of building legacies and financial stability. The event which has the theme: ‘Laying the foundation for unlocking legacy and inter generational wealth will be hosted at Happy Valley Hotel on July 25, 2024. The purpose of this conference, according to Buyisile Cele, one of the organisers, is to engage family-owned businesses on best practice and governance arrangements that enable a family business to expand and survive beyond the life of the founder, thus creating a legacy and inter generational wealth.

According to observations by the organisers of the event themed as the Family Business Summit, currently local family businesses have limited growth and generally collapse after the demise of the founder, yet in other jurisdictions they survive for generations. “Currently, local family businesses generally collapse after the demise of the founder yet in other jurisdictions they survive for generations,” said Cele. The organiser further mentioned that they have secured speakers, international, local, and government, together with venue sponsors as well.

According to Cele, there was also an observation that people attended business conferences but no one zeros in to family business. Topics that the event will focus on include: Family business dynamics, creating value through good governance, entrepreneurial spirit and growth in family business, overcoming challenges of family business conflicts, and family succession planning and tax implications, among others.

Speakers include: Manessah Alagbaoso from Standard Bank South Africa, Creagh Sudding from KPMG South Africa, Alan Barr also from KPMG South Africa, and a lot more other local speakers. Worth noting is that other countries, such as Nigeria have had such events in the past. Last year in particular, Nigeria brought leaders from different African countries to discuss the same subject. During the first ever Family Business Summit Africa, more than 150 leading African family business leaders and shareholders shared their experiences in order to turn crisis into a source of opportunity.
