Africa-Press – Eswatini. Fans will endure football blackout during the festive holidays following the further postponement of the MTN Premier League games to next year.
The games will now resume on January 4 instead of December 30-31 as initially announced by the organisation after the postponement of this week’s league games on Tuesday evening.
Premier League of Eswatini Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya said the organisation still needed time to address the areas of concern pertaining to match organisation.
He further stated that they would also assist clubs over the availability of police and emergency services during matches.
On another note, the Eswatini Football Association condemned the acts of violence during football matches through its Chief Executive Officer, Frederick Mngomezulu.
This follows the recent attacks on match officials at Mavuso Sports Centre last weekend.
Regret
“The Eswatini Football Association expresses its regret on the unfortunate scenes of violence observed in some selected matches and in this regard would like to express a note of empathy and sympathy with all those who have been affected in various ways during and in the aftermath.
The observed emergence of scenes of violence in some of the football matches of the Premier League critically threatens the game’s universally envisaged accuracy of the image, its economic viability and most assertively, the safety and security of the stakeholders and consumers of the football product,” he said.
The CEO further went on to assure Emaswati that they would address the matter to ensure the safety of fans during football matches.
