FNB EMPOWERS OVER 1000 Smes WITH E250 MILLION IN FUNDING

Africa-Press – Eswatini. FNB Eswatini has disbursed E250 million to support the growth of more than 1000 local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through its innovative automated scored lending approach.

The announcement was made during an FNB SME Seminar held at the Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF) on Friday, which was attended by over 50 SME owners seeking to strengthen their businesses.

Nombuso Mndzebele, Head of SME Banking at FNB, emphasized the bank’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. “Every business deserves the right tools to succeed. We have introduced automated Scored Lending, a solution that uses behavioural data to determine lending facilities for our clients. Over the past two and a half years, close to E250 million has been disbursed to more than 1000 SMEs, helping them grow and thrive,” she said.

The seminar also highlighted practical strategies for business success. Dumsani Sikhosana, FNB Eswatini’s Sales Manager, encouraged entrepreneurs to implement proper financial management practices. “It is important to record all income and expenses, no matter how small, and to separate personal affairs from business. Set aside a standard salary for yourself, and maintain disciplined financial records daily, weekly, or monthly,” he advised.

Meanwhile, Gugu Matiwane, FNB Chief Risk Officer, warned business owners to remain vigilant against fraud. “Entrepreneurs must watch out for scams. Red flags include deals that seem too good to be true, urgency tactics pushing you to act fast, and unusual payment requests such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. If you fall victim to a scam, cancel the card, report it immediately, and contact your bank,” she explained.

The seminar underscored FNB’s dedication to equipping SMEs with both financial resources and essential tools for sustainable growth, helping Eswatini’s entrepreneurs succeed in an increasingly competitive market.
