In a village once marked by limited opportunities, Mfanikhona has transformed his humble beginnings into Enzokuhle Poultry Farm, a thriving business that feeds both his family and community.
What began as a hopeful idea during tough times has blossomed into a remarkable success story. “I had nothing to do,” Mfanikhona recalls, “but I always dreamed of creating something meaningful — something that would secure my family’s future.” With no capital, his path was uncertain until the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) believed in his vision and provided a startup loan.
Armed with determination and a thoughtful plan, Mfanikhona started with 150 chicks. His careful management kept losses low, and soon, his small operation began to flourish. Today, even while working from a rented space, he has scaled up to 350 chicks per cycle — a clear sign of progress. “Seeing the business grow fills me with pride,” he says with a smile. “It shows that with patience, you can build something lasting.”
Of course, the journey has not been without hurdles. Learning to balance stock with local demand has been one of his biggest lessons. “The customer base can be unpredictable,” he admits, “but I’ve learned how to adjust and keep the business steady.”
Now, Enzokuhle Poultry Farm supplies fresh, quality chickens to households in Madulini and the broader Nhlangano area. Mfanikhona has become a trusted local supplier, turning his personal dream into a community treasure.
