Africa-Press – Eswatini. Resilience and beads weave together the story of a determined entrepreneur. What began as a difficult chapter in 1998 when she was forced to quit school due to financial challenges, has now turned into a story of resilience and entrepreneurship for Phindile P. Zwane.
Zwane, who was in Form 3 at the time, recalls how she had to put her education aside. In 1999, she found work at Ezulwini Handcraft before venturing into her own business three years later. In 2002, she began creating unique handcraft products using beads, a skill that has sustained her livelihood to this day.
“I make emagcebesha, tigciba, bracelets, gun lighter cases, nets, table mats, pen holders and rings,” she explained, proudly highlighting the variety of her work.
Operating from Ezulwini Handcraft (Codec), opposite the five-star hotel, Phindile continues to push her creativity forward while embracing the ups and downs of small business. “The business is coming okay although sometimes it becomes quiet, I also do stock taking if lousy,” she shared.
Despite the challenges, her passion for craftwork keeps her moving. Based in Mahlanya, Phindile is among the many artisans who continue to preserve Eswatini’s rich culture and showcase it through beadwork and handmade products.
