GOVERNMENT ENDORSES REVIVAL OF NATIONAL MEDIA AWARDS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) has officially endorsed the revival of the National Media Awards (NMAs), a prestigious platform aimed at recognising excellence, professionalism, and credibility within Eswatini’s media fraternity.

In a letter dated 13 October 2025, Minister of ICT Savannah Maziya (Senator) conveyed the Ministry’s support to the Eswatini National Association of Journalists (ESNAJ) and the Eswatini Editors Forum (EEF), the two organisations spearheading the awards’ reintroduction.

The Ministry applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely and strategic move that aligns with national efforts to strengthen public trust in the media and reaffirm its role as a cornerstone of democracy and national development.

“The Ministry commends this initiative, which aligns with ongoing efforts to promote professionalism, excellence, and credibility within the media sector, and to further strengthen public trust in the role of the media as a pillar of democracy and national development,” the Minister stated.

Minister Maziya further confirmed that the Ministry would actively participate in the inaugural edition of the awards, scheduled to take place on 12 December 2025. She encouraged the organisers to share logistical details and the event programme to facilitate the Ministry’s participation.

“The Ministry of ICT fully endorses this endeavour and looks forward to taking part in this inaugural event of the National Media Awards,” she said.

The Minister also congratulated ESNAJ and EEF for reviving what she described as an “important platform” that celebrates journalistic achievement and promotes higher standards of reporting, ethics, and accountability within the profession.

The National Media Awards, previously held under different structures, are expected to become an annual celebration of the country’s best journalistic work across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. The event will also serve as a networking opportunity for journalists, editors, and media institutions to share ideas and strengthen collaboration within the industry.

The awards’ revival comes at a time when the Eswatini media landscape is undergoing significant transformation, with growing calls for innovation, ethical journalism, and fact-based reporting. By recognising outstanding contributions in these areas, the NMAs aim to motivate journalists to maintain high standards of integrity and creativity.

Minister Maziya concluded by extending her best wishes to the organisers, expressing confidence that the event would be “successful and impactful.”

The launch of the 2025 National Media Awards marks a new chapter in Eswatini’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, credible, and professional media industry that supports the nation’s democratic and developmental goals.
