Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government is working towards introducing subjects such as patriotism and mindset change in schools.
This plan was revealed by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini to senators during the debate of the performance of his office for the financial year 2024/25. Other lessons will be taught on culture, Tinkhundla system, excellence and ambition.
Dlamini was responding to a question that was posed by Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini, who expressed concern on what she viewed as failure on Emaswati to see how blessed they are. The senate president said Emaswati seemed not to be positive about their country and their way of life. She wanted to know how the premier was going to ensure that a positive mindset was adopted by Emaswati.
In response, the prime minister said it was true that the country was endowed with many positives that needed to be appreciated by Emaswati. However, it was unfortunate that many Emaswati seemed not to see and appreciate the positivities with which the country was endowed. That was where the mindset change came in, according to the prime minister.
The PM mentioned that on top of introducing these lessons in schools, they would also introduce these values to civil servants that were going to be recruited into the public sector from now onwards. Senator Linda Nxumalo appreciated that followers kept on increasing on Government’s social media pages. Nxumalo further applauded Ministries of Home Affairs and that of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, saying they were seen to be doing well. She wanted to know the strategies that were used to garner followers on social media.
In response, the prime minister said there were a combination of factors that caused such to happen. However, one thing that stood out was the posting of positive stories on social media pages of Government. He said the posting of positive stories about the country has swayed false information and has increased public confidence about the country, hence many people wanted to keep following what Government was doing on its social media pages.
