GOVT ACCOUNTANTS TRAINING WILL OPEN OPPORTUNITIES FOR ESWATINI ECONOMY – CSC CHAIRMAN

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Simanga Mamba says the on-going training of Government accountants will open opportunities for the country’s economy to improve impressively. Mamba said this today (May 8, 2024) when he met Tanzania’s Accountant General (AG) Leonard Mkude at the CSC Conference Room in Mbabane.

Mkude was introduced to Mamba and other CSC commissioners by the country’s Accountant General (AG) Nomsa Simelane. The aim of the introduction was to inform the CSC, as a body responsible for the entire civil service personnel, that the accountants were being trained by Tanzania’s AG to adopt what is known as the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs).

IPSASs is a reporting framework that will assist with improving transparency and accuracy in the reporting for public funds. It worth mentioning that Mkude, on Monday (May 6, 2024), met Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, who also seconded the training of the Government accountants by Tanzania’s AG. Speaking during the meeting, Mamba said it was important for the country’s accountants to be trained because the world was changing and countries were now adopting the IPSASs.

Mamba said it was important for accountants with the necessary skills because they played an important role of guarding the country’s purse. Therefore, they had to be transparent, so that they could get the trust of the members of the public. Mamba raised a concern on ethics on the accounting profession, stating that it was important for accountants to always be ethical.

He pleaded with Mkude to stress on the importance of ethics during the training because accountants had to always have the confidence of the public. He said the public had to trust that their money was safe in the hands of public accountants. The public funds, according to Mamba, should always help the ordinary person because in most cases, public funds were intended to make ordinary lives better.

Because of these concerns, Mamba stated that officers such as compliance officer, risk management officer, fraud detection officer, commercial officer, among others. The training is supposed to end today and Mkude is expected to go back to Tanzania on Friday. Other sessions are going to continue in the future in the country and Mkude is expected to be back to continue with these sessions.

Others who were present during the meeting include CSC Commissioners Chief Velamuva Maseko and Ntombi Mngomezulu, CSC Principal Human Resources Officer Sibusiso Vilakati and other officials was also present.
