GOVT BACKS ESWATINI TEACHERS FOR COMRADES MARATHON PARTICIPATION

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Sport, Culture and Recreational Council sponsored Eswatini teachers set to participate in the Comrades Marathon 2025 in Pietermaritzburg, with a contribution of E10 000, the announcement was made today at the Ministry of Education offices.

The Ministry of Sports has contributed E10 000, affirming its commitment to promoting sports and wellness among professionals in the education sector. Speaking at the event, CEO of the Sport, Culture and Recreational Council, Darius Dlomo highlighted the importance of encouraging teachers to lead by example in embracing physical activity and healthy living.The Comrades Marathon, known as the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon, presents a unique opportunity for Eswatini participants to showcase their endurance, determination, and national pride on an international stage.

“We are hoping our teachers won’t be swept off the road , we want them to finish the race,” said Dlomo. “We are proud to have teachers who are involved in sport. They are setting an example for the youth, showing them that the road doesn’t kill.”

“I am pleased that our teachers are training and staying fit,” said Minister of Education Owen Nxumalo. “They are setting a positive example by staying fit they become more productive in the classroom, improve their health, and can serve longer in the profession. On top of that, they will raise the country’s flag high and we hope they will bring home medals.”

The initiative aligns with national goals to uplift sports development and create platforms for wider community involvement through events that inspire health, resilience, and cultural exchange. As the countdown to the Comrades Marathon begins, the participating educators carry with them the hopes of a nation, ready to make their mark while promoting Eswatini’s presence in regional sports.
