Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Hyena Motorcycle Club brought some holiday spirit to the Mawelawela Women’s Correctional Centre this Christmas, donating essential supplies to support the women and children living at the facility. This visit is part of the club’s long-standing commitment to community outreach.
The handover took place at the centre with several key officials in attendance, including His Majesty’s Correctional Services Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, Deputy Commissioner General Phindile Glory Sibandze, and Officer in Charge Mamoshoeshoe Ntsane. They were joined by a group of about 50 bikers who participated in the day’s activities.
The donation focused on practical necessities aimed at improving daily life and restoring dignity for inmates, with personal care items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and dignity towels provided to support hygiene and wellbeing, while childcare needs were addressed through the donation of diapers, toys and NAN formula for mothers caring for infants.
Commissioner General Dlamini expressed her gratitude to the Hyena Motorcycle Club, noting that their consistent partnership with HMCS plays a meaningful role in the rehabilitation and well-being of those in the facility. She highlighted that the club has been a reliable supporter of correctional services for several years.
The effort was a collaborative one, with several other clubs joining in, including All Legends from South Africa, Swazi Boys MCC, Criminals MCC, +268 MCC, and Rogue Riders. For the inmates, the visit was more than just about the supplies; it provided a sense of encouragement and connection to the outside world during the holidays.
Following the visit to Mawelawela, the bikers headed to Vulamasango School’s Family Fun Day. There, they spent time with the students, sharing personal stories and encouraging them to focus on their education and make positive life choices.
HMCS officials noted that initiatives like this help bridge the gap between correctional institutions and the public, showing how community-led support can play a vital role in the rehabilitation process.
