ICT EXPERT UNVEILS BOOK ON DIGITAL WORKPLACE TRANSFORMATION

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini-based ICT and digital transformation specialist Muzi Mhlongo has unveiled a new book that offers practical guidance on how organisations can reduce operational costs and improve efficiency through smart digital transactions.

Titled The Digital Workplace Advantage: How Smart Digital Transactions Cut Costs, Increase Efficiency, and Transform Organisations, the book provides a clear and accessible roadmap for institutions seeking to modernise their operations in an increasingly digital world.

Drawing on more than a decade of hands-on experience, Mhlongo presents the publication as a practical guide for organisations transitioning from manual, paper-based systems to streamlined, automated digital processes. The book blends strategic insight with actionable solutions, supported by real-world case studies drawn from government institutions, development agencies and the private sector.

According to Mhlongo, the book was inspired by his repeated encounters with inefficiencies embedded in everyday organisational workflows. He notes that paper-based approvals, duplicated data entry, delayed reporting and fragmented record-keeping continue to drain resources and slow decision-making in many institutions, despite the availability of affordable digital solutions.

“These inefficiencies are not just technical issues, they are institutional challenges that can be addressed through thoughtful system design and leadership commitment,” Mhlongo said. He explained that the book aims to bridge the gap between technology and practical organisational reform, demystifying digital transformation for decision-makers.

Much of the book is grounded in Mhlongo’s direct involvement in the development of national digital platforms, including youth empowerment portals, human resource information systems and automated government services. These experiences form the foundation of the lessons explored in the publication, ensuring the content is rooted in practice rather than theory.

Structured into six thematic parts, The Digital Workplace Advantage begins by unpacking the often-hidden costs of manual operations and redefining digital transactions as more than the adoption of new software. Instead, it emphasises the importance of redesigned workflows, interoperable systems and integrated data environments.

The book then builds a strong business case for transformation, illustrating how automation, real-time data and digital oversight can deliver long-term savings, improve productivity and strengthen compliance. Subsequent sections guide readers through system design and implementation, covering user-centred design, cybersecurity, scalability and data analytics, while reinforcing the principle that technology must serve people.

Importantly, the book also addresses the human dimension of digital transformation. It explores strategies for managing resistance to change, fostering leadership buy-in and cultivating a sustainable digital culture within organisations.

Looking to the future, Mhlongo examines emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, digital identity systems, blockchain-enabled transactions and mobile-first workplaces. He urges African institutions to embrace these opportunities with urgency and purpose, rather than viewing digital transformation as optional.

While informed by global best practice, the book speaks directly to Africa’s institutional realities, challenging leaders to rethink service delivery, governance and accountability through meaningful digital innovation. Mhlongo cautions that organisations that delay modernisation risk being left behind, even as the tools for building transparent, efficient and citizen-centred workplaces are already within reach.

The Digital Workplace Advantage is available in both PDF and hard copy formats. Complimentary copies are being shared with strategic partners, government institutions and development organisations to promote knowledge-sharing and support digital transformation efforts across the region.
