Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ingwenyama Cup Women’s Football tournament will kick-off on Saturday with the games to be played at the Lobamba Technical Centre Sports Ground.
The tournament will kick-off with eight teams battling out for spots in the quarter-finals were four teams are on standby. The draw of the E100 000 sponsored tournament was done alongside the main Ingwenyama Cup tournament last 32.
The four teams that will start in the quarter-final stage are the top of four of the 2023/ 24 Women’s Football League, being champions Young Buffaloes, Manzini Wanderers, Green Mamba and Nsingizini Hotspurs. They were not part of the draw and they won’t be in action this weekend.
The preliminary draw saw Denver Sundowns pitted against Royal Leopard, Mbekelweni to face Red Rhinos with Southern Divas playing against Mbabane Swallows and AS Interladies will be up against Sidvwashini United.
The winners will then qualify for the quarter-final.
The Women’s football tournament will be making its debut under the Ingwenyama Cup and this has increased tournament s played for by the ladies teams.
There are lucrative prizes to be won with the champions taking home a lucrative E20 500 while the runner up will get E10 000 and E5 000 each for the semi-finalists.
There are also prizes for excelling individuals with the player of the series getting E2 000, top goal scorer E1 000 and the best goalkeeper will be awarded with E600.
