Africa-Press – Eswatini. The journey to becoming a qualified and competent police officer is a walk of thousand steps accompanied by the zeal to learn and commitment to serving the country.
For the recruits who will be passing out during the 20th Police Day to be held in the coming week, this day means standing proud in front of Their Majesties ready to pledge their loyalty to the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The next step for the trainees is joining seasoned officers for an on the job training of their journey.
By design, the policing vocation is a calling to serve the country, therefore, as the trainees go into the field, they should execute their duties with due diligence and commitment to ensure that safety and security in the country is secured. They are expected to exhibit conduct that is above reproach and always maintain discipline and professionalism at all times as they interact with the nation.
The oath of office and loyalty which they take before Their Majesties and the nation should always be a guide and moral compass to help them when challenges and temptations try to sway their focus from the essence of the profession.
Most importantly, they should always observe and be truthful to the provisions of The Official Secrets Act No. 30/1968, which states that a police officer shall not to divulge any information he or she has gained as a result of his/her employment to any unauthorized person either verbally, in writing or otherwise without the sanction of the Prime Minister.
In a nutshell, being a police officer means you are a servant of the public in or out of uniform and 24 hours a day. A police officer is expected to uphold the virtue of honesty and integrity, so that the organisation continues to maintain a good image and working relationship with the nation.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) relishes the goodwill and confidence of the communities it serves hence it thrives to maintain cooperation with all stakeholders involved in prevention and fight against crime, especially communities and members of the public.
The new cohort of officers are expected to cultivate personal discipline with humanity, passion, professional practices while working to serve and protect the country. The REPS is guided by discipline hence officers are not expected to be found to be involved in criminal activities or behaviour at all times.
