Africa-Press – Eswatini. Judge Thomas Masuku has confirmed that, Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has renewed his contract as a Judge of the High Court of Namibia.
“I can confirm that my contract has been renewed for five(5) years by the President,” said the Judge when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini when Thursday evening.
Judge Thomas Masuku was persecuted by the Tinkhundla undemocratic regime for upholding judicial independence but, he was later recognized by the international community as a reputable and independent minded Judge.
Eswatini is an absolute, the Judiciary and the media is not independent, Judge Masuku was persecuted for delivering a judgement stopping King Mswati’s agent Macaleni Dlamini from grabbing cattle from poor citizens in the name of the King.
Dlamini was subsequently arrested years later after that judgement as Mswati discovered that indeed, his Cattle Overseer was manipulating the Monarch’s name for personal gain.
Reached for comments, eSwatini highly regarded lawyer Sibusiso Nhlabatsi congratulated the Judge after the renewal of his contract, describing him as a jewel of justice.
“Judge Masuku is the jewel of justice and as lawyers, we are still making arguments based on his judgements. He is one Judge who goes beyond submissions made by lawyers in court and develop the jurisprudence. It’s a pity that he is now having his contracts renewed in Namibia while we rejected him as our own jewel. But it’s a sand on our face because Namibia is deeply benefiting”, said the lawyer.
