Africa-Press – Eswatini. KFC–Alliance Foods has pumped in E900 000 towards the Scara Thindwa Foundation development programmes.

The sponsorship was announced by the group’s Chief Financial Officer Nigel England during a ceremony held at Mountain View Hotel yesterday.

This year, the competition under the KFC Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation, will also include the boys Under-13, adding on the Under-17 girls and Under-15 boys.

England said the sponsorship was a way of giving back to the community, contributing towards the development of football in the country. “We are happy to announce this year’s competition, which will also cover the Under-13 boys and we are also supporting the girl-child.

The aim of the sponsorship is to see massive improvement in the national teams, hence we have committed ourselves with this amount,” he said.

England said they wanted to see children excelling in their academic work, further thanking the Scara Thindwa Foundation for giving them the opportunity to be partners in this great initiative. Meanwhile, Scara Thindwa Foundation founder Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa thanked KFC for the kind gesture.

“This shows that KFC does take care of the community, and we are short of words for what they have done for us today,” Thindwa said.

Foundation

The former national team and Kaizer Chiefs player said football had done wonders for him, mentioning that he was fortunate enough to be part of the foundation.

“Let’s find solutions for children’s lives. It might not be soccer, in particular but there is so much that our children can learn in playing soccer, and it can also open job opportunities.

Let’s try and get proper training for the children while they are still young,” he said. Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association representative Nhlanhla Dlamini appreciated KFC for their sponsorship.

“It is not easy to get support, especially in sports. Some of the federations are struggling to pay affiliation fees and we believe more sponsors will support sports and follow in the footsteps of KFC,” Dlamini said.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry of education, Phila Dlamini thanked the foundation for adhering to the ministry’s procedures. She said as a ministry, they discovered that sports were important in the lives of the children.

“We believe that through sports, unemployment will not be high as it is now, and we are looking forward to a great competition among the schools,” said Dlamini.
