Africa-Press – Eswatini. SIHLANGU will be boosted by the return of first choice goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala ahead of their World Cup Qualifiers match against Libya on Friday.

The squad is currently in camp at the Technical Centre in Lobamba in readiness for the upcoming matches against Libya and Cape Verde, respectively.

“Following the injury that Khanyakwezwe Shabalala sustained two weeks ago, the player has recuperated and has resumed his training in camp.

International player Justice Figuaredo will not be available for both matches as he has not fully recovered from his injury,” reads a statement from EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe.

On another note, Mthokozisi Gwebu has been released from camp due to personal engagements, thus he will not be available for selection for both matches.

Injury

According to a source close to the matter, DStv Premiership side Richards Bay player, Figuaredo has not fully recovered from an ankle injury which has ruled him out of action for three weeks now.

Eswatini are in Group D where they are pitted against African giants Cameroon, Mauritius, Angola, Cape Verde and Libya.Sihlangu will be looking forward to book a place in the upcoming 2026 World Cup edition, which will be co-hosted by Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico.

The Dominic Kunene-led troops had their preparatory matches against South Africa and Botswana where they played a goalless draw with South Africa and lost 1-2 to the Zebras of Botswana.

Eswatini has never qualified for the global showpiece in their history despite playing 21 games under the competition and won only four times managed five draws and 12 losses. Eswatini won against Djibouti by 6-0 and 2-1 scoreline in 2015 and beat Togo 2-1 in 2008, and their forth win was against DR Congo October 25, 1992 where Eswatini won 1-0.
