Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III has applauded UNESWA’s resilience in facing financial challenges while continuing to expand its infrastructure and partnerships.

In a spirited address at the 43rd UNESWA Graduation Ceremony, the King celebrated not only the academic triumphs of over 1 500 graduates but also the progress made in building the institution itself.

A highlight of the ceremony was the completion of the first phase of a modern classroom block at Kwaluseni, generously funded by the Patrice Motsepe Foundation. His Majesty encouraged alumni and other benefactors to emulate this example, emphasizing that strong partnerships are vital to the university’s future.

He further praised government’s commitment to higher education, noting a 7% increase in the 2025 university budget and the fact that 65% of students are sponsored through government support. Such investments, he said, reflect Eswatini’s unwavering commitment to education as a pillar of national development.

International collaborations also earned recognition. The King applauded UNESWA’s ability to attract global research grants and participate in international consortia, which provide both students and staff with vital exposure and opportunities. The increasing enrollment of students from across Africa was hailed as proof that UNESWA’s programmes are globally relevant.

In closing, His Majesty extended heartfelt gratitude to lecturers, administrators, and support staff, describing them as the backbone of the institution. “Your role in shaping the minds of future leaders is both noble and essential,” he said.

The ceremony not only marked the success of graduates but also reflected the vibrancy of UNESWA as a growing centre of academic excellence, innovation, and infrastructure.
