Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III presented four former and incumbent Heads of State who graced the 55/55 double celebration with commemorative coins.

His Majesty’s guests included King Letsie III of Lesotho, former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, former president of Botswana Ian Khama, and King Ndamase of Eastern Cape yesterday during a tour of about 40 exhibition stalls at the Eswatini International Trade Fair.

The King presented the coins at the Central Bank of Eswatini stall.

During the tour, the King was joined by Emakhosikati, princes and princess, who included, among others, the Minister of Information Communication and Technology, Princess Sikhanyiso, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Security, Prince Sicalo and Prince Mcwasho, to name a few.

When presenting the gifts, the King, who was in a jovial mood, stated that this was a very precious gift from the Central Bank of Eswatini to his guests.

The King also appreciated the Central Bank of Eswatini for keeping the country’s value through the coins.

He mentioned that he was presenting the gifts in memory of the recent 55/55 double celebration.

When explaining the coins, Central Bank Governor, Dr Phil Mnisi said the commemorative coins had been collected from 1968 up until 2018.

He said they were currently working on another commemorative coin, which would be launched when the Central Bank turned 59 next year.

“The commemorative coin is of precious matter and can be sold for a higher value. It’s not the face value of the coin but it is what we call the intrinsic value of the coin or the embedded commercial value of the coin that makes it valuable. The coin shows the portrait of His Majesty, as well as the culture and tradition of the country,” explained Mnisi.

He said when people buy the coin, they buy the heritage of Emaswati.

Meanwhile, the stalls that were toured by His Majesty included MTN Eswatini, Eswatini Observer, the University of Eswatini, Eswatini Electricity Company, Eswatini Tourism Authority, and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology stalls, to name a few.
