KWANELE JELE RIDES TO VICTORY, INSPIRES LOCAL CYCLISTS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. From the quiet village of Nhlambeni in Manzini to international cycling arenas, Kwanele Jele is proving that with determination and heart, champions can rise from anywhere. The Eswatini-born cyclist has become a beacon of hope and resilience, inspiring a new generation of athletes across the country.

Jele’s cycling journey is paved with accolades. He has twice claimed the title at the Eswatini National Championships and made history as the first Swazi to cross the finish line at the MTN Khemani Race. In 2024, he triumphed at the Darkton Day Break Road Race in Siphofaneni, showcasing his growing dominance. His talent has also taken him beyond Eswatini’s borders, representing the kingdom at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and competing in the Cape Town Cycle Tour in 2023 and 2024.

Yet, Jele’s path has not been without hurdles. He speaks openly about the challenges faced by athletes in non-mainstream sports, particularly the lack of financial and institutional support. “This sport is done for the love—otherwise, in return, it’s peanuts,” Jele notes. He calls on government bodies and sponsors to invest more in sports beyond soccer, urging them to unlock the full potential of Eswatini’s talent.

His commitment has been unwavering. From MTN Khemani Cycling Club to 4eva Cycling Club, Jele’s versatility shines in events involving over 300 cyclists. He balances his work life with intense training, often rising before dawn to prepare. “Clubs try to support us here and there,” he says, “but more structured backing is needed.”

Looking ahead, Jele envisions a landmark moment for the nation: a premier local cycling event. “We hope one day we will have an Imbube cycling race in the country,” he says, a dream he continues to chase with every race.

Kwanele Jele’s story is more than a tale of personal triumph—it’s a rallying cry for change. It’s a reminder that with community, belief, and investment, Eswatini can nurture champions and uplift untapped potential.
