Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Siteki Town Council has suffered a huge blow in the passing of Ward 6 Councillor Muzi Ngomane, who had shown passion in developing the town.
Ngomane passed on about a fortnight ago in a tragic accident near Oshoek Border Post.
He was laid rest at his parental home at KaMartin, near Lonhlupheko over the weekend.
Speaking during a memorial service, Town Clerk Sithembile Simelane said the passing of Ngomane came as a shock and a huge blow to the development of the town, which had been making good strides over the past five years.
Simelane disclosed that during his tenure as mayor, Ngomane established a partnership with the Mozambican municipality of Manhica, and was already bearing the fruits in terms of facilitating development projects.
Ngomane served as mayor for three years, during which a number of projects were implemented.
Among these was the reconstruction of two major streets within the town centre. Simelane said the late mayor displayed passion in his work as he was always on the ground during the implementation of projects.
Ngomane is said to have also prioritised the wellness and welfare of the council’s workers.
“He was dedicated to his work, and always wanted to ensure that everyone was moving along with development both at work and at personal level,” she said.
Simelane was echoed by Ward Six Committee Chairperson Mathendeni Dlamini, saying they were devastated by Ngomane’s passing as they were looking forward to a long working relationship with him.
Dlamini recalled that Ngomane brought a number of developments in the ward, which had somehow been neglected in the past.
He pointed out that council was currently concluding the construction of a tar road to the cemetery at Moyeni, a project which was pioneered by the late councillor.
Dlamini said Ngomane had brought hope to the youth of the ward, as he established recreational structures which inspired the youth to interact in terms of upgrading themselves.
“Ngomane had a passion of helping the needy, especially young people as he displayed that by establishing a care point, among other establishments which worked with the youth,” he said.
Ngomane was also described as a person who was progressive and accepted no excuse for failure to develop oneself. Dlamini said they were literally left poorer as they had a number of plans they were hoping to implement with the late councillor.
“We were already seeing a future member of parliament in him as he had proven himself as someone who was passionate in working for the community,” said Dlamini.
Meanwhile, former senator Bhutana Dlamini, who is an uncle to the late councillor said Ngomane had a passion for politics as he would constantly have consultations with him.
Bhutana said Ngomane had disclosed his interest in national politics as he believed he could contribute to the economic growth of the country. “It is unfortunate that God’s timing is different from our time, and we can only accept that my nephew responded to the Lord’s call in this manner,” he said.
Bhutana passed his condolences to the Ngomane family and the municipality. Gordon Mbuli also passed his condolences on behalf of the ministry of housing and urban development.
Mbuli said the ministry was shattered to have one municipality losing two councillors in one term. Ngomane’s passing comes after that of Mvila Dlamini, who died in 2020 as a result of COVID-19.
