LAW SOCIETY WELCOMES PRINCE SIMELANE’S APPOINTMENT

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Law Society has welcomed the appointment of Prince Simelane as Minister of Justice.

This was said by attorney Charity Simelane, who is the Law Society’s Secretary General.

Prince Simelane was minister of housing and urban development in the previous Cabinet.

“The Law Society welcomes the appointment of His Royal Highness, Prince Simelane as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs,” Simelane said.

“The Society looks forward to working with him on the issues affecting the country’s justice system and the administration of justice, which is the focal point in the fight against corruption.”

The Society’s secretary general said as an organisation for lawyers they have confidence in him in that he will work on fixing the problems faced by the Judiciary so as to restore public confidence in the justice system and assist in the fight against corruption.

“A sound justice system will make the country an attractive investment destination,” she pointed out, “and the Law Society looks forward to engage constructively with the honourable minister to attain these objectives.”

When asked what issues they thought the new minister needed to prioritise, she highlighted the handicapped Anti-Corruption Commission.

“Issues which the Law Society can highlight as pressing and would like the minister to give priority are the handicap of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the complaint against the chief justice lodged by the Law Society in terms of Section 158 of the Constitution in December 2022 and the probe into the office of the Master of the High Court with regard to its administrative and financial functions,” the legal eagles’ secretary general said.
