Africa-Press – Eswatini. This past weekend, the Silindzini community in the Dvokolwako Mliba area came together for a powerful prayer gathering aimed at combating the pressing issue of gender-based violence (GBV).
Firstly, we would like to applaud our Chief for the wisdom in seeking God’s guidance in this time because we lost 4 residents in the space of a week due to GBV in his area,” Shongwe stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation faced by the community.
The event, attended by over 300 residents, highlighted the urgent need for collective action against violence perpetrated against women.
Organized by Chief Madubane Magagula of Dvokolwako, the prayer was a somber reflection of the tragic reality the community has faced the loss of four residents in just one week due to GBV.
Addressing attendees, Indvuna yeNkhundla Comfort Hlasela Bhubesi Shongwe opened with a message of gratitude towards Chief Magagula for seeking divine guidance during this deeply troubling time.
In condemnation of GBV, Shongwe called upon the community to collectively denounce the violence against women. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and seeking help, particularly among the youth.
“As the Silindzini Community under Chief Madubane Magagula, we condemn the killing of women by men, and we strongly condemn it with strong words,” he asserted.
In deep prayer
Shongwe urged the youth to take proactive steps toward conflict resolution, recommending that they seek assistance or counselling from the Royal Eswatini Police Service and social welfare officials rather than resorting to violence.
He further encouraged young individuals to empower themselves economically by accessing funds from the Inkhundla Mkhiweni to start their own businesses, rather than depending on others for financial support.
The prayer event served not only as a moment of reflection but also as a clarion call for the Silindzini community to unite against GBV and promote a culture of respect and support for one another.
The spirited gathering reaffirmed the commitment of community leaders and residents alike to stand firm against violence and to foster an environment where everyone can feel safe and valued.
It is worth mentioning that as the community continues to deal with the heart-wrenching impact of GBV,
The recent gathering marks a pivotal step toward healing and transformation, igniting hope for a future free from violence and filled with compassion.
