LUJU FESTIVAL BOOSTS RURAL BEE FARMING IN ESWATINI

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival has donated E148 490 to support a bee farming project led by World Vision Eswatini, aimed at transforming the livelihoods of rural communities in Lobamba Lomdzala during the festival’s launch event at Malandela’s Lifestyle on Friday evening.

The beekeeping project is a joint effort between World Vision Eswatini and Emlembe, designed to provide small-scale farmers in Lobamba Lomdzala with the resources and market access needed to enter the honey production sector. The initiative forms part of World Vision’s broader economic strengthening programme, which seeks to create sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable families.

Delivering remarks at the event, World Vision Eswatini’s Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Sharon Maziya, commended the Luju Festival and Standard Bank for investing in community transformation. “This generous contribution will go a long way in helping us empower rural communities through practical, income-generating projects. Our goal is to build self-reliant communities, and partnerships like this make that vision possible,” she said.

Maziya further highlighted the collaboration with local farming businesses in the Lobamba Lomdzala Constituency, which have offered land and access to natural flora needed for successful honey production. The partnership with Emlembe will also ensure that the farmers have consistent access to markets. “It’s not just about producing honey, it’s about unlocking opportunity, dignity, and long-term economic empowerment for families that need it most,” she added.

The Luju Festival’s organisers emphasised that this donation aligns with their goal to create lasting impact beyond the festival grounds. Through its CSR initiatives, the festival continues to support causes that promote sustainability, food security, and economic inclusion.

Members of the public were also encouraged to support the festival, as their attendance helps fund similar initiatives that uplift communities.
