Africa-Press – Eswatini. Expelled Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) Chairperson Busi Mayisela has reiterated that the formation’s leader Mduduzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane remains suspended.

Reacting to a statement by the movement’s Spokesperson Thantaza Silolo on Friday, announcing her expulsion from the formation alongside Secretary-General Dr Siphetfo Dlamini for alleged gross misconduct, Mayisela says she was unfazed.

She stated categorically that the meeting, in which the decision to expel them was taken, was allegedly illegal as no quorum was formed, adding that the President (Simelane) had already been suspended by the NEC members (four members out of the seven NEC members) in any case.

“In the meeting, there were 146 members. Even if it was officially convened, there was no quorum. The meeting was chaired by a non-executive member of the NEC, but the spokesperson.

There was no secretariat to take minutes. That is illegal,” Mayisela alleged.

Decision

Furthermore, the chairperson pointed out that those who took the decision (to expel them) allegedly had no power and authority to suspend, let alone expel them, stating that, ‘the president is a member of the NEC, he is not the NEC.’

“The national chairperson position is the highest one in the movement.

A spokesperson cannot sign the letter of expulsion. Due processes must be followed before such a decision can be taken. The letter for expulsion was signed by an ex-officio member who has no authority to sign it,” Mayisela further argued.

She also made damning allegations that the president (Simelane) would always employ a manipulative strategy and push an intimidation stance on members, hence they would refrain out of fear to express their honest views.

“That is why they had to go as far as only selecting and inviting SWALIMO members who worship the president. The content of the letter talks to over 400 members present in the meeting and yet we have gathered that only 146 members were present and to that effect not all of them share the same sentiments.

“The whole thing is a joke, and it is sad that the organisation must be subjected to ‘yo-yo’ politics. The organisation deserves better than this,” she remarked.

However, ‘Magawugawu’ has promised to address the allegations against him today on social media platforms.
