Africa-Press – Eswatini. Despite living with both cognitive and physical disabilities, Mahle from Ekupheleni is proving that determination and skill can overcome any challenge.
Cognitive and physical disabilities refer to conditions that affect a person’s ability to think, learn, or understand and to move or control their body.
He is among a group of youth from the Hhohho region benefiting from the ENYC TVET programme, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
Through the programme, Mahle received carpentry tools and began hands-on training under the guidance of skilled community carpenter Sandile Mamba.
He started with the basics, including measuring, cutting, sanding, and joining wood, he has already contributed to crafting pedestals and a cupboard. He is now eager to learn more advanced projects such as chopping boards and wardrobes.
“I cannot wait to be an expert in carpentry so I can make more things and earn a living from my hands,” Mahle shared with a bright smile. His enthusiasm reflects not only personal ambition but also the potential of structured skills programmes to change lives.
For ENYC officials, seeing youth apply their skills in real-life projects is the ultimate reward. “When young people turn training into tangible results, it shows that the programme is working,” said an ENYC spokesperson.
Mahle’s story embodies the spirit of InternationalYouthDay2025, which highlights local action as a driver of sustainable change. The initiative also aligns with the National Youth Policy, which seeks to empower every young person to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.
Beyond carpentry, Mahle’s journey is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and ambition. His dedication serves as an example for other youth facing challenges, proving that with the right support, passion, and hard work, obstacles can be turned into opportunities.
As Mahle continues to refine his craft, he is building more than furniture he is carving a future filled with promise, independence, and the pride that comes from creating something with his own hands.
