Africa-Press – Eswatini. Approximately Over 1 000 elderly residents of Manzini South Inkhundla attended an early Christmas celebration, 13 December 2025. Manzini South MP and Minister of Education and Training, Hon Owen Nxumalo, hosted an end-of-year thanksgiving event at Zakhele Sports Ground.

The event was held to appreciate the elders for their guidance and prayers, and provided food hampers through partnerships with Instacash, Buy N Save Spar, and SUB.

The event gathered community members and national leaders, including Minister of ICT, Hon Savannah Maziya, and other Members of Parliament. Elders received food hampers and shared moments of joy, song, and reflection. Hon Nxumalo used the occasion to acknowledge the role of the elderly in holding families and communities together, stating the celebration was a small way of giving back to those who have contributed significantly to society.

In a key moment, Hon Nxumalo introduced his Inkhundla council, commending them for their unwavering service, commitment to community welfare, and role in promoting unity and development within Manzini South. The introduction was met with applause from the elders and dignitaries, highlighting the importance of local leadership.

Minister of ICT, Hon Savannah Maziya, thanked the people of Manzini South for their continued support and prayers and appealed for ongoing spiritual backing for leaders. She said, “This work is very huge and important, thus we need your prayers so that we can continue to work for the people of the country and not misuse the funds.”

She added that they are committed to ensuring that all schoolgoing children have access to digital literacy, which includes learning how to use computers and tablets, as well as understanding online safety.She said the aim is to equip learners with digital skills that will help them start businesses or secure well paying white collar jobs.

One of the beneficiaries, Gogo Simelane, aged 68, expressed gratitude on behalf of the elders. Thanking Hon Nxumalo for the gesture, she said, “May God multiply and bless you with more,” as she welcomed the early Christmas treat with appreciation.

The celebration concluded on a festive note, reinforcing the spirit of unity, gratitude, and care for the elderly as the country approaches the Christmas season.
