Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Mbabane Municipal Council has collected about E1.6 million from plot sales during the current financial year.

According to the annual report for the financial year 2022/23, the municipality‘s Urban Development Project (UDP) aimed to collect proceedings from beneficiaries who were allocated plots in the urban development project communities.

Collections were conducted at Nkwalini Zone Two, Nkwalini Zone Four and Mahwalala Zone Six communities.“Various strategies were used to encourage plot beneficiaries to make plot payments during the annual year,” reads the report.

Those strategies included the use of direct calls, bulk SMEs, radio announcements as well as articles in the council’s newspaper column. The council further issued public notices in a bid to embolden plot payments.

The municipality accentuates that the collections in the aforementioned communities reached 83 per cent of the council’s target.

“A total amount of E1 669 000 was collected during the financial year against a target of E2 million,” reads the report in part.

It further outlines that during the first quarter of the financial year, collections worth E323 000 were conducted while an almost double the amount was collected during the second quarter.

The report mentions that the second quarter relished the highest collections which amounted to E619 000.

The third quarter’s collections amounted to E279 000, while E448 000 was collected in the fourth quarter, bringing the total collections to E1 .6 million.
