Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s rising classical music star, Mcebo Nhlakanipho Dlamini, has proudly put the kingdom on the regional stage after securing a coveted spot in the top 15 of the prestigious Soli Competition 2025, hosted by the Tshwane Choral Music Association (TCMA) on August 16, 2025.
Competing in the highly competitive Open category as a bass baritone, Dlamini’s commanding performance captured the attention of judges and audiences at the Silverton Hall in Pretoria. Out of 26 talented vocalists, his success means he now advances to the finals on December 6, 2025—a climax eagerly awaited, with the final venue yet to be announced.
The TCMA Soli Competition is widely recognised for nurturing excellence in classical and choral music. Beyond awarding prizes, it seeks to discover and elevate exceptional talent while creating opportunities for artists across Southern Africa. That inclusivity was evident this year, with participants coming from outside South Africa, making Dlamini’s presence a significant moment for Eswatini’s cultural representation.
For Dlamini, music has been a decade-long journey. He first discovered his passion in 2012 as a member of the Swazi National High School Choir. By 2014, he was already competing as a soloist, shaping his unique bass baritone voice. His talent was sharpened further through mentorship by Mr. Comfort Hlophe and later by joining the Harmonious Choir under Mr. Mvubu.
His musical path also took him to the Royal Eswatini Police Choir, with whom he competed both locally and internationally, achieving notable placements such as first place in eliminations and third in finals in Durban. These experiences built the foundation for his solo career and eventual breakthrough at TCMA.
Reflecting on his achievement, Dlamini described the Pretoria stage as “a truly remarkable experience,” noting how the high standard pushed him to deliver his very best. “I am honoured to be counted among such outstanding performers,” he said, adding that the competition offered invaluable opportunities for growth, networking, and exposure.
With his deep, resonant voice and unshakable determination, Dlamini now looks ahead to December’s finals with optimism. His journey is an inspiring testament to Eswatini’s rich musical talent and the potential of its youth to shine on international stages.
