Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Small Enterprises Development Company has reported a significant growth in the number of women receiving entrepreneurial training.
A total of 239 women were trained in the month of May alone.
The entrepreneurial training courses include record-keeping, costing and pricing and business awareness.
SEDCO Chief Executive Officer Khethiwe Mhlanga said their entrepreneurial development trainings are aimed at creating entrepreneurial awareness and building the capacity of existing and potential entrepreneurs. Mhlanga stated that SEDCO was making a dedicated effort to help and support female entrepreneurs because women were the essential pillar of society.
“They are mothers who need to feed their children, they are the ones who are looking after the family’s livelihoods, they are the core of the nation and they struggle the most. They need to be prioritised and empowered for the community to survive and strive,” said Mhlanga.
She said most of the trainings were sponsored by Maloma Colliery and Inhlanyelo Fund.
Mhlanga further encouraged more organisations to partner with them and sponsor trainings for women, especially those already in business.
“Entrepreneurship training can help female entrepreneurs overcome the challenges they face in running their small businesses and improve both the performance of their enterprises and reduce the opportunity gap for women entrepreneurs,” she said.
The Small Enterprises Development Company is a government owned company that is mandated to identify entrepreneurial training needs in the country’s SME sector and provide training interventions that create entrepreneurial awareness and build the capacity of existing and potential entrepreneurs.
