Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Environment Authority, alongside its dedicated partners, led a large and successful tree-planting mission across Motshane Inkhundla on 12 December 2025.
This major effort was focused on restoring nature, helping the region stand strong against shifting weather patterns, and promoting conservation led by the local community. The planting took place in three local areas under Motshane Inkhundla: Kupheleni, Nduma (Motshane), and Mpolonjeni. Trees were planted at each community center (Umphakatsi), guided by the Indvuna Yenkhundla, and powered by the support of local residents and young volunteers.
The importance of the day was highlighted by the attendance of high-level guests. His Excellency Karsten Mecklenburg, the European Union Ambassador to Eswatini, and Vusi Dlamini, the head of the Eswatini Tourism Authority, both took part in planting, symbolising a joint promise to care for the environment. The young trees were a gift from the Eswatini Forestry Department, answering the national call to action for widespread tree planting and land healing issued by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini at the 2025 Temvelo Awards.
Planting trees is a vital way to look after our world. It helps protect natural areas, makes the soil healthy, keeps our water supplies safe, and lessens the severe effects of climate change. Importantly, it also supports local ways of life, encourages diverse nature to thrive, and is a key part of Eswatini’s overall plan for lasting growth.
Motshane Inkhundla’s commitment is exemplary, having been honored as the 2025 Temvelo Awards Green Inkhundla winner, a clear sign of their strong dedication to environmental care. What makes this project truly inspiring is that it is being organized and driven by young people, showing the growing and powerful role of youth leadership in caring for the climate and the environment.
The successful tree planting exercise provides a clear, practical example of how strong partnerships, between government groups, local people, international friends, and the energy of youth, can successfully turn national goals into real, positive change right where people live.
