Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane East Member of Parliament, Welcome Dlamini, has commended the Government of Eswatini through the Ministry of Home Affairs for acting promptly to engage marriage officers amid rising divorce cases in the country.

Speaking during an interview, Hon. Welcome Dlamini said the government’s prompt response addresses a pressing concern: the collapse of family structures due to increasing divorce rates.

“We have said in Parliament that Ministry of Home Affairs must engage marriage officers and counsellors. We thank the Ministry for doing that, as our major concern has been that family structures are collapsing due to divorce. Marriages are failing, particularly civil marriages. For the Ministry to take this step is very encouraging,” he stated.

The Member of Parliament further urged the Ministry to also consider traditional marriage structures and different marriage regimes, including polygamy and monogamy, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen families.

On 26 March 2026, at the Emlalatini Development Centre (EDC), marriage officers and government officials reflected on ways to enhance counselling services, improve service delivery, and reinforce standards in marriage solemnisation and pre-marital counselling.

This follows concerns raised in Parliament by Hon. Welcome Dlamini, who called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to assess the credibility and effectiveness of marriage counsellors nationwide.

The training cover updated registration procedures, legal requirements, and practical approaches to pre-marital counselling, positioning marriage officers to play a more impactful role in supporting lasting unions.

Marriage officers and aspiring candidates attend, as the Government demonstrates its ongoing commitment to building resilient families across Eswatini.

The Mp emphasized that the Government’s proactive measures signal a clear commitment to protecting the foundation of society strong and stable families. “By equipping marriage officers with the right skills and reinforcing counselling services, we are not just responding to a crisis; we are investing in the future of Eswatini, ensuring that marriages endure and family bonds remain unshaken,” he concluded.
