Africa-Press – Eswatini. Political activist Mphandlana Shongwe led the Mountain of Salvation International Christian Church in song yesterday.
Shongwe, who visited the church founded by Prophet Vusumuzi ‘Major V’ Dlamini, had the auditorium shouting ‘viva’ as he made remarks after singing a political song synonymous with political rallies and protests. The political activist sang ‘Indzima lendlela inameva, iyahlaba’. This was after his host; Prophet Major V had briefly shared the word of God with the congregants. He had also emphasised to the over 300 congregants that there was no love lost between him and Shongwe. Prophet ‘Major V’, who brought his trophy and medal to church, also reported to his congregants that a group of people attacked him on Saturday after their boxing match with Shongwe.
He said there were about 20 people who hurled insults and further tried to attack him. At this point, Prophet ‘Major V’ claimed, he had to use his boxing skills to defend himself.
He said his assailants started by harassing him as he waited for another vehicle to transport him after the vehicle he had been chauffeured in developed mechanical faults and had to be parked at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre. Subsequently, he called upon the political activist to the podium. Shongwe, who had arrived at the church just before noon, started singing the song as he led the church.
Thereon, he sung praises to his host and traditional healers who also played a major role during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said others offered prayers while traditional healers used their knowledge of herbs to treat those who were sick. He appreciated the opportunity to engage the congregants as he said in his 40 years of being a political activist; he had always sought to enlighten people about what he stood for. “I’m here today to tell you that I did not register to vote because I shall be enriching an individual while service delivery continues to collapse. My message to you today is, listen to your prophet who emphasised that every human being has his/her special gift,” Shongwe said. He said others were seeking to partake in the elections without understanding what it was. Shongwe, who had been praised by Prophet ‘Major V’ for not insulting authorities, said his battle was for the truth to be brought to light. In explaining this, he said there were no qualms with the authorities however, there were people abusing their closeness to the authorities for selfish benefits.

He said this led to a question that begged to be answered: “What shall I be voting for if the youth will continue to idle at home with no scholarships and job opportunities?” Furthermore, he said pastors were bringing spiritual healing to the masses, which needed to be complemented by medical drugs and supplies in hospital. Shongwe said for him, it was no use to entrust people with lives of many yet they were supposedly stealing taxpayers’ money by failing to render services which the populace paid for in advance. His belief, he said, was that the manner in which the people were governed should be addressed first before seeking to have individuals occupying political seats. In jest, the political activist said some individuals were already crowding churches with the belief that those particular churches would assist them secure a seat in Parliament and or Cabinet.
His speech, which was over five minutes, was characterised by shouts of ‘viva’ and whistling as some of the congregants expressed being in the same line of thought with what he was saying. Shongwe also emphasised on the need for sport to assist minors with autism to excel in any of them and or other artistic capabilities. He said it was wrong for people to claim that those with autism should not be exposed to education and sport. Instead, he said they needed that the most as their excellence could be in it.
