Africa-Press – Eswatini. Acting CEO of MTN Eswatini, Jerry Soko, has revealed that he was targeted by scammers, locally known as Bofacata, not once, but three times, highlighting the growing sophistication of fraud in Eswatini.

Speaking during the CEO’s Chat held at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Soko shared his personal experience to warn students and the public about the increasing threat of digital scams. The event, attended by students, faculty, and industry leaders, focused on leadership, innovation, and real-world challenges facing young professionals.

Soko disclosed that the scammers attempted to trick him through convincing messages and impersonation tactics, aiming to manipulate him into sharing sensitive information. “They tried three times, using different approaches each time, but the intention was the same,to deceive and exploit,” he said.

The incident occurred over recent months, reflecting a broader trend where fraudsters are becoming more calculated and persistent. Soko emphasized that anyone can become a target, regardless of their position or experience. He noted that scammers often rely on urgency, fear, and false authority to pressure victims into quick decisions.

He explained that awareness and vigilance are key to combating such crimes. “Always verify before you act. Never share personal or financial information without confirming the source,” Soko advised. He also encouraged students to use their digital skills responsibly and to stay informed about common scam tactics.

The CEO’s Chat provided a platform for open discussion, with students engaging Soko on issues ranging from cybersecurity to career growth. His revelation served as a powerful reminder that even top executives are not immune to fraud.

Authorities and companies continue to urge the public to report suspicious activities and remain cautious in an increasingly digital world.
