Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Nation is counting on the Police Service to play a starring role in safeguarding the peace that was inherited from our forefathers to guarantee sustainable development.

These were sentiments of the Deputy Senate President Honorable Ndumiso Mdluli during the official closing of the Junior Supervisory Skills Development Course 01/2021 held at the Police Academy last Friday.

Mdluli stated that the country recognised the important role played by the Police Service in ensuring that there was peace and harmony in different sectors of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The Deputy Senate President applauded the Police Service for its role in ensuring that the magnitude of damage incurred by the country during the unrest was minimal. He said since the Police were trusted with maintaining peace in the various communities despite a platter of challenges and dangers, the key was to put faith in God to protect them.

“While putting our trust in the police force to help maintain peace in the various communities, we recognise the challenges and dangers they face and we entrust our faith in God for their protection,” he said.

Mdluli stated that capacitation on human rights is particularly important since such is one of the benchmarks of policing in society. He noted that since the ultimate goal in policing was to maintain peace, order and stability, it was befitting to engage first-line managers in intensive educational sessions to enhance their knowledge.

“I applaud your great vision of realising the significance of capacitating first-line managers as the key component of every developing institution that has a clear mission, vision and objectives. Furthermore, the transitional society has great expectations in policing functions to ensure a safe and secure future,” Mdluli noted.

The Deputy Senate President thanked facilitators of the Junior Supervisory Skills Development Course for ensuring that it was a success and congratulated course participants for their achievement.

“Your resilience in pursuing the academic session is quite commendable considering the disturbances in your course. One wishes to applaud the team of the faculty of management and leadership for their diligent commitment in ensuring that the training session continued as per the grand plan,” he concluded.

Speaking on behalf of the first-line managers, Sergeant Thabile Kunene expressed sincere gratitude for being awarded the opportunity to be capacitated with the necessary management skills for performing their duties effectively. She further made a pledge to utilise the knowledge acquired to re-ignite professionalism and the commitment necessary in redirecting policing to another era.
